Chiang Mai
A tip off received suggests that there are now rear facing speed cameras on the middle ring road R3029 at both ends of the R118 Mee Chok underpass.

If you know anyone who has been nicked on a bike there please let us know.

Most, if not all, speed cameras in the North so far appear to be forward facing cameras, so there is no threat to bikes with no front number plate & only a rear number plate.

Is anyone aware of any other rear facing cameras on the under passes around Chiang Mai?

I don't know about the one you mentioned but I did get a ticket in the mail from Udon province on Highway2 heading south between Udon and Khon Kaen about a month ago so the cameras are out there. Nice clear color shots of me on the bike and the licence plate. 400Baht so I'm not changing my riding habits!

Phitsanoluk on R11 heading south to MotoGP.

Richard Na Ched Yot got caught for 121 KPH in the 90 kph zone on that long flat dead straight boring highway.

From the photo the GPS location appears to be here
Google Maps

Approximately Km 261.

A good idea to avoid that long flat straight boring stretch of road if possible. What a joke 90KPH.

Who else is going to get a ticket going to MotoGP.

On R1, coming back from the GTR dinner at Tak, I noticed a gantry with cameras across the north bound lane 20 kms south of Lampang, just before the Kho Kha turn off.
I noticed it because a car over took me at about 160 kph & sped away in a long straight, but then he suddenly slowed dramatically for a short distance & then accelerated again. It was the location of te cameras where he slowed dramatically & took off again afterwards.
Dos anyone have any unfortunate ticketing experience here?

R118 Doi Saket

Just near the weigh bridge inbound to Doi Saket, it should be near here somewhere Google Maps

Poor Jurgen said he's been nicked 3 times & this last time by a rear facing camera.

It is the 4-lane highway. But the speed limit is 80 or 90KPH? What the heck.

Soon the Demerit point system will be in force.
In the fotos posted above there is a space for them already.
Days of 400 - 500 baht for ever and ever is over.

An interesting app

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.highway.traffic

Thailand Highway Traffic
- access to more than 100 traffic cameras on the highways
- latest speed(km/h) and flow(veh/h) of the vehicle
- real-time speed & flow graph of the last 24 hours
- traffic congestion level by color
- search by location, region, or road name
- view cctv/speed/road
- Public restroom and drinking water locations
- Travel time interface
** Traffic Data provided by Bureau of Highway Safety, Department of Highways (DOH)**

You can click on a camera image & it supposed to indicate if it is functioning.

It covers the whole country - up North & elsewhere, so you can know where the cameras are.
However it may not be the new speed cameras I fear; but it should be a help to some people.

Keith McVeighty got nicked here in September.

500 baht fine.

Returning from MotoGP on R11 I also noticed a pack of cops with radar guns, sitting in the shade of the dual carriageway divider, 25 kms south of Uttaradit.
They were facing south & I went past about 140KPH, & nothing happened; but I think they were only interested in the cars.
Just a few kms before them, was a nice new banner up on the highway warning of speed cameras.

Sakhon Nakhon.
DSC_0021-01.jpeg

On route 22 entering Sahon Nakhon I got nicked for doing 113 kph which was over the 90kph motorcycle speed limit.
DSC_0019-01.jpeg

What the hell.
I never even saw the camera or radar. The offence must have been committed a few kms back up the road and I wasn't the only one. Almost everyone was getting caught. One guy was caught doing 142kph & it wasn't me.
DSC_0020.JPG

The police are waiting with a clipboard with your rego number & speed on it.
I'm still not sure it worked, but at 400 baht I wasn't complaining.

The location is here; خرائط ‪Google‬‏‏

Riding up to the memorial ride I was stopped by police on road 11 short before Lamphun.
126 km/h, allowed 90 km/h. 500 THB with official fine receipt, they did not mention any points.

Route 107 north of Mae Taeng
Spotted a few days ago heading North, police in the south bound lane had a speed camera set up in a bus sala with a checkpoint to stop the violators just 2 kms further down.

The camera trap was in the long straight north of the Mae Tamann elephant camps trn off.
Location about here: Google Maps
there are several shady bus salas for the cameraman to in along this stretch.
Good luck with any 500 baht fines for exceeding 90kph.

400 baht for 129 kph on the 4-lane dual carriageway, with a 90KH speed limit
This is a new speed trap set up after Songkran the police said.

90kph on the 4-lane dual cariageway! What a joke. Almost every vehicle was being pulled over.

The checkpoint to pay your fine if here

Good luck, but if you're going to do over 90KPH, make sure it is worthwhile, because it is 400 baht whether you are 10 kph or 100 kph over the limit.

What happened to the increase in speed limits ?.................................did that happen or does this road not meet the criteria ?

I suspect that is the point. Everyone thinks it is now 120 when it is not. In fairness, that location is a Uttaradit Highway Police station. Goole maps shows a queue last year.

It looks like things might start happening in Chiang Rai, on R1, north of the R118 road junction.

A few hundred metres north of the Chiang Rai entry

Not far after those cameras it looks like there's a new police building & checkpoint being set up, if my memory from today is correct. I will confirm next week.

From today an announcement
Speed on superhighway new regulation car 120 km/h, big bike (> 400 cc) 110 km/h if no speed limit or "unless specified otherwise."

Let's see what happens in practice.

Quick internet search will reveal black number stickers you place on your bike.
Goes white when foto taken. Never get a ticket again.

I cant remember the exact clear paint I used to paint over my number plates back in Australia, it was some type of clear coat that reflected....................worked great night and day, take a photo and it just showed a white plate.

Well eventually the coppers got wind of it and used to check for it, the fine was huge, even loss of license so most people removed it, I doubt it would be an issue here
