Not so much an organised ride in 2021, due to covid-19, but a rendezvous in MHS.

In 2021 the ceremonies were all held at the GTR Chedi Memorial site, above Wat Phrathat Doi Kong Mou.

The site the day before.

The planting of grass around the area has worked well & is something for GTR to be very happy with, as is the abbot of Wat Phrathat Doi Kong Mou.

The site ready for the ceremony in the morning.

Markus from Phuket, came in 2020 & was back again in 2021. Another appointment meant that he was unable to stay on the Saturday, but he paid his respects on the Friday, plus put his donation in the donation box.

His effort & donation is much appreciated. TQ Markus.

More to come..

George explaining about the meaning & significance of the ceremonies. Why we do it. Respect to our departed riding mates & the abbot of Wat Phrathat Doi Kong Mou for granting GTR permission to construct the GTR Chedi & Memorial Pillar on the temple land. It is important to conduct these ceremonies as annual rental payment to the wat, & GTR is respected by the temple for doing so. Having everyone participate in the ceremonies is all part of the package for the memorial ride, the soul of the event.

In 2021 there were 2 plaques on the new Rider's Memorial Pillar.
One for Evan Jones, an old mate of Bungy, Brian Jones & myself; plus one Alexandros James Christodoulou from Chonburi / Bkk. Evan's plaque was put on earlier this year.
Alex's plaque was put on by his close mate Lee, supervised by Mike, who had both come from Chonburi. We hope you two guys enjoyed the event & being able to honour your riding buddy Alex.

Lee had a piece of Alex's crashed bike from the accident scene & both Mike & Lee were able to place the bit in the Rider's Memorial Pillar.

The ceremony, conducted by 82 year old Khun Darunee, the most senior respected Master Of Ceremonies in MHS.

Darunee provides his service for GTR every year & the show but would never mean as much without this genuine, sincere kind man.
Long may he continue.

The start of the ceremony
1636782529128.png

The ceremony is to contact our departed friends in the chedi, check on their well being, plus clear out bad luck, cleanse the soul & bring good luck to participants in the ceremony. It is special & one that we encourage everyone to participate in. A simple Wai, whilst the ceremony is underway, is the way to go to show respect for the abbot & monks who come to perform the ceremony.

A big TQ to everyone who came. 23 out of an original 42 names.

GTR appreciates the effort of those who came & participated in the ceremony at the wat, to reflect on our good lives here as bikers, plus remember the great times we have had with our departed riding mates.
Not everyone knows everyone in the chedi, but we all share a common riders bondage & enjoy life. Long may it continue as mates, & long may everyone appreciate the soul of the ride. Riding for those gone, riding with buddies still here & then to participate in the memorial ceremony to all be united as one again. It's not just a ride to get on the turps.
We look forward to seeing you all & more again in 2022.

Kudos to those who came from afar.
Pauly Gee from Ko Samui
Markus from Phuket
George from Hua Hin
Mike & Lee from Chonburi
Matthias from Bangkok
HawaiianBrians from Khon Kaen
Thanks to, to Michel, Hawk & Andy - newbies. It was great to have you there. Please come again.

More images will come from Jurgen.

A donation for the Wat...the morning after - Sunday morning.

Despite the reduced numbers, but with a reduced ceremony this year, no ambulance & medical staff, & no police, GTR was still able to make a donation of 5,000 baht to the abbot of Wat Phrathat Doi Kong Mou.
Thank you everyone who chipped in to help cover costs & make a donation to the temple.

Monday morning a 2nd donation was given, this time by Brian Jones. Money collected by his wife's yoga group & an excellent expression of support for GTR, plus to make merit at the wat. The amount 4,500 baht. TQ to the yoga group.
