The last Wednesday of the month in February = Wednesday 23 February 2022.
We have never had a GTR Dinner in Rak Thai, although one was planned in May 2021. However covid-19 cancelled that, with Rak Thai not accepting visitors from outside around the date.

Rooms have been Booked and Paid for:
Myself.
Robert,
Grahame.
Russ.
See You there.
Just a note to anyone trying to book rooms. They seem to be very reluctant to answer any Telephone numbers for Bookings at any place and we called a few? Finally got through to one and even then they wouldn't speak said to message them through Line! So booked and then they want Payment immediately? Anyway its done now so onwards and upwards to another Memorable Dinner!

Hi, I am living in Chiang Rai these past 4 1/2 years and am a new joiner and first timer to GT Riders and interested in attending next week's dinner in Rat Thai. For head count you can add me to the dinner list. I understand we all make our own hotel accommodations. Please advise if there is anything else I need to do in advance. What time does the dinner start? (Brian aka Incee).

Welcome Brian, most GTR dinners we arrive 3 to 5pm for a few pre dinner drinks, and then onto the actual dinner, lots of interesting riders from all walks of life, you will be made welcome and fit in well.

Welcome to GTR Incee.
It will be great to have another new face & rider at a GTR Dinner.
The only plan ever is to meet up in a small town, have a few drinks & meal together, swap rides & adventure stories.
How you get to the rendezvous spot is up to you. Most guys make it an over night trip, and some guys make them a trip over multiple days - up to you.
I'm in Chiang Khong & will over night in Pai on the way there.
Coming back I will stop off in a few places to catch up with friends & my contacts.

The rendezvous spot in Rak Thai will is
Be here for beers & a meal. Anytime from 4.30PM at a guess. Eat after the sun goes down.

Rak Thai is small, so it will be easy to see anyone on a big bike.
I don't have a place of stay yet, but will try another small GH by the lake.
In March 2021 stayed @ the Nong Luck
but will give another place a go this time.

The dinner @ Leewine Restaurant by the lake, an enchanting location.

Happy Hour for the guys who arrived on time, & a welcome to Incee in a nice relaxed group, chilling out.

The dinner was an interesting challenge due to the unexpected crowd @ Rak Thai, the place was still packed & booming with high season, even at the end of February when you'd normally expect it it be going into low season with few people around, but not at Rak Thai. Accomodation was at a premium & it was the luck of the game of the standard of guesthouse accommodation you ended up with by the lake. Some of us were well satisfied, some accepted it for what it was on the day, & some were obviously disappointed.

My place of stay was the Thanaphat, & I lucked out as I had thought I would try the Rak Thai Thai Swat GH this time round, but could not find the driveway & went into the one next door. The Thanaphat.

Some stayed at the Nong Nuch for 800? baht.

Brian Stayed @ the Ban Rak China, on the south side of the lake for 1200 baht.

And then there was the Rak Thai GH for 800 baht that disappointed the guys booked in there.

Part of the fun of the GTR Up Country dinners is staying in a place were perhaps you would not normally stay & picking your own accommodation from what is available. It is what it is on the night & can be an entertaining challenge for some.

Back to the dinner venue.
Originally I had thought we would be into low season @ Rak Thai, with only 2 or 3 tables occupied for dinner, but.....
The Leewine was packed, the staff were overworked & the service slow, as to be expected in the situation.

Nonetheless most people had a good time & enjoyed the evening, hooking up with everyone again.

Some riders came direct from Chiang Mai, some had over nighted in Pai the night before, & 1 couple stayed at Pang Ung just down the road.
It is great to see this happening, with everyone making their own way to the dinner destination, at their own pace & on their own route. Well done!

The destination of Rak Thai is a beauty & well worth putting on your list of places to go & spend a night if you have not done it before.
Some lake pics, that remind me of Sapa in Vietnam.

A satisfied GTR old fellah enjoying the Rak Thai view.
Hit it sometime. It's an experience & you shouldn't be disappointed right out there on the Myanmar border.
