Hi, Im currently planning a ride in Laos and have come upon a part of the route Im not too sure is possible to ride through with a heavy bike and pillion.

this is the route in question http://tinyurl.com/kxdu2zn

I chose this route over the typical one of going to vientienne then to the cave because i wanted to save a day. Has anyone taken this route before and if so, how difficult would it be to ride through with a passenger? thank you!

Your google map doesn’t show the new road. When you head south, just stay on the new road, dont turn right at the Pakxan turn off (which you wont see anyway).
The new road is a winner because you dont need to ride on busy hwy13, or the Pakxan rd that can be in a mess at times. Plus the scenery is stunning.

This is the road you want.

Blue dots are the new road.

The boat ride through the cave is great and you can also easily arrange an official homestay in the local village.
