ADV350 - Ask me any questions

Serv
@ ADV

At what speedo increments does the service due message appear on the dashboard on the ADV350 ?

When it clocked 1000km I got the message and the shop reset it, I thought it would appear again at 6000km but not as yet, I am now over 7000km and still no message.
Service interval, dash display lights at 12,000km. Oil change lights at 6,000km.

I have just got my ADV350 and I was looking at getting a rack, similar looking to yours, I was looking at the H2C version or Moto Wolf, but they look pretty pretty much identical to the one you have fitted into your Bike. I was thinking of using and similar bag to what you have and just attaching it to the rack, instead of using a box what would your thoughts be on this? Any other recommendations?

Thanks Ian
The photo you attached does look like basically the same rack.

I have also considered just using my Loboo soft roll top bag (instead of the box), from time to time. I'm interested in streamlining the centre of gravity.

I'd try placing the bag along the length of the rack and seat. I think placing it sideways the soft bag structure would drape too much over the sides of the rack.

This might cause chaffing and premature wear of the pvc material against the metal rack at the drape points.

I haven't tried soft bag only, yet. I'll do it when I return to Maesai, perhaps by the end of this week.

I think I recall seeing a nice rack made by Loboo, on Lazada.

A point I will consider is how the bag strap anchor points work out if the bag is positioned length ways rather than sideways.

In fact, even sideways on the rack the top box mounting plate doesn't have slots wide enough for the bag straps to pass through.

My oil change light never came on at 6000km......................I did change oil/filter though

But the light just came on at 7100km ?.........................I presume it has done 6000km since the 1000km service

2 week ago I want to buy Zontes 386 cc.
But i meet Heineken some night ago in Chiang Rai and I ask suggestion because him drive both ADV Honda 350 cc and Xmax Yamaha.
I think is right
Honda and Yamaha can found if need parts every where.
Zontes we don ‘t know
Thank you Heineken

I really like the Zontes ADV version...very tempting...but for me it's not quite the time for Zontes due to dealer network and parts availability.

I'd love for this situation to change more quickly.

When I replaced my flood damaged ADV350 I also went to the Zontes dealer in Chiang Rai.

At that time only the Zontes road version was available. Its an impressive bike at a great price. If the Zontes ADV version had been available at that time I think I might well have purchased it (having already owned the ADV350), as a comparison.

However, the more I ride the ADV350 and do rountine maintenance because of the kilometres I am covering, the more the doubt about Zontes parts support and downtime due to parts availability grows.

This is an unfortunate doubt.

@Ughetto

Routine parts for maintenance...

- Oil and air filters
- Brake pads
- Brake pins and clips that hold the brake pads and the rubber bellows the brake pins pass through.
- sparkplug
- variator set (including oil seals)
- clutch set (including oil seals and o rings)
- drive belt
- front fork spring and oil
- rear shox

There's not much else I can think of. Surely Zontes can get that parts supply together across Thailand?

I think Zontes focus is to perhaps develop the Euro market, which would make sense.

I don't see too many Zontes parts suppliers on Lazada. I buy 99% of my rountine Honda OEM parts on Lazada and they arrive within 72hours.

I have nothing against Zontes, I havent even ridden one, but I have had a good look over the Zontes 350E and 368 and they look impressive, with alot of accesories that come standard, big TFT colour screen/crash bars/TPMS and some models have built in front/rear cameras.

My concern is parts and service, my ADV350 or Xmax I can go 5km to my local dealer and get a service or repair...................................and resale would be poor in comparison to Honda/Yamaha IMO

Time to remove the forks and replace fork oil.
IMG_20251031_105033.jpg

I'm using Ban Chang Motorcycle Tire Shop & Service on the spanners.

The oil refill will be Ohlins SAE10 fork oil at 90mm from top of fork leg, as per the official Honda ADV350 Tech Manual.

Interestingly the YSS fork upgrade provides conflicting fork oil volumes on their YSS web presence and the YSS upgrade kit installation leaflet. Also YSS provide conflicting oil viscosity (5w and 10w) data. YSS HQ have failed to answer my query for clarification, sent by email, and didn't get very far with a phone call either.

So my position is that I will rely on the Honda data, at 90mm fill height.

This fill height might give the Honda volume of 403ml, but also the YSS upgrade spring might itself take up more physical spring volume, hence relying on the Honda 90mm refill height as the absolute.

I don't want to blow seals by over filling and not being able to compress oil, resulting in blown seals. That would be disastrous.

Update: fork service completed in 2hr 40 minutes, sometimes with two mechanics working together.

Here's the YSS conflicting fork oil volumes....ones states 340cc and the other 380ml. (There's no conversion difference between cc to ml).

Also note to conflicting YSS oil data for kit#004 web image states 10w and install leaflet states 5w (and Honda state 10w, which is what I will be using). The YSS fork oil supplied in the #004 upgrade kit was 5w.

Cost to replace fork oil, parts labour ฿2800.

I'll replace fork seals, dust seal and retaining spring at the next fork service.

Existing seal is showing no signs of being damaged/worn. So, I'll do a preventative replacement at the next fork service in another 20-25,000km

I updated my front suspension on my ADV350 a couple of weeks back, also at Ban Chang, I went with the YSS also and they supplied 5w oil in their kit.

I tried to get a reason as to why the oil is so thin but couldnt get an answer, on the shelf they had some old Ohlins oil containers, one was 15w and another was 20w ?

It felt like a good improvement on the 70km ride home, the real test will be in a week or so when I ride my ADV350 over to Mukdahan and meet our group for another big ride, across Laos and into Northern Vietnam for 3 x weeks

I really enjoyed the YSS #004 kit upgrade for the first 10,000km. After that I perceived the springs already going off and I could noticeable see the front end sag down when sitting on the scooter, which didn't happen when YSS upgrade was first installed.

The YSS are still a big improvement, though, over the stock springs. Its unfortunate that YSS don't supply different spring rates according to rider weight.

Ban Chiang were waiting on a new Ohlins fork oil delivery yesterday when I called in to check when they wanted to schedule the work.

This morning at 10.00am was the agreed time and I could see new unopened bottles of Ohlins fork oil now on the shelf.

I still have in mind a trip to the Adreani fork upgrade official importer, who is based in Chiang Mai. Adreani will supply springs to rider weight, not a generic one size fits all spring. The importer also outsources tge fitting service to a Chiang Mai mechanic/shop, so I want to investigate the whole process and see if I feel comfortable splashing more cash at the ADV350. Its going to be interesting after this fork service to see if I think enough is enough on attempting to get a better ride and handling.

Yes, my YSS #004 upgrade it came with YSS 5w oil, too. Its going to be interesting feeling for difference now that I'm using 10w on this service. Just to note about fork service intervals... I really noticed the YSS 5w fork oil degrading by about 20-25,000km.

Wow... sounds fantastic!!!! Is this the same tour organiser as the first trip?

FYI....a Zontes 368G review from a bloke in Thailand.

Don't think I'd appreciate waiting so long for parts mentioned in the video. And tge bend in 'crash' bar on a wet mud fall too.

Always good to remember these big scooters are mainly cosmetic off-roaders...lol
