    Hey Joko - will you be heading to Chiang Mai again this year.

    My plans are pretty fluid, aside from arriving Nov 7th, and leaving Nov 18th...

    I'm in town with The Bride and no mates.

    Also, if anyone is interested, John Gooding and us will be heading out for 4 days from the Monday. Don't know where, but the Doi Phukha loop is on the agenda.

    A road update in view of Dellboy's tip
    https://www.gt-rider.com/thailand-motorcycle-forum/showthread.php/39090-1263-Mae-Chaem-area-to-Khun-Yuam

    It seems to be the same old stuff from Mae Chaem - Mae Na Chon + a few more kms to the Ban Hong / Mae Sa turn off.
    After that would appear to be ok - I rode out 15 kms west of Mae Na Chon up into the mountains where I think is is probably all ok.

    294288=17568-GTR-R1088-2.

    294288=17570-GTR-R1088-4.

    The nasty sandy corner coming of the bridge that catches people out.

    294288=17569-GTR-R1088-3.

    the ratty surface that has broken up

    294288=17575-DSC_0283-1.

    not serious or difficult , just annoying.
    & for a maximum of 100 metres, if that.
    None of it steep.

    More bits of sand

    294288=17572-GTR-R1088-6.

    You just need to keep your speed down & watch the road, no day dreaming looking at the scenery.

    294288=17573-GTR-R1088-7.

    Good & bad

    294288=17574-GTR-R1088-8.
    294288=17567-GTR-R1088-1.
    294288=17571-GTR-R1088-5.

    stunning views, but sand on some parts to make you keep your speed down.

    Mae Chaem - Mae Na Chon = 26 kms approx. Alternating race track asphalt / patchy bumpy asphalt. Keep your speed down & watch the road; & take care on all the blind corners.
    Mae Na Chon - to the bridge with the nasty sandy corner = 10 kms.
    After this it is up into the hills & a good asphalt road.

    After Pang Kia the wick gets wound up a bit & to quickly get onto R108 & that dream like motorcycle road R108 Khun Yuam - Mae Hong Son.
    & what an end to the day's ride R108 Khun Yuam - MHS is. Absolutely perfect.

    Piya Gh was the main place of stay for the guys in MHS, and highly recommended it is too. Its even got a pool now

    294390=17604-IMG_8306.
    700 baht a night & absolute top value.

    Check in, dump your gear & onto the Wat to pay our respects

    294390=17605-IMG_8296B.

    TJ / Simon/ Dan, you guys are missed - there is no doubt.
    Riding the Mae Hong Son we know was one of your favourite past times & delights in your life.
    Thanks for all the good times we shared.
    You guys will be honoured with another GTR MHS Memorial Ride in 2014.

    So onto the night, the Sunflower for happy hour & then everybody's favourite the Crossroads Pub.
