I stayed at the Souannavong Guest House, 152 Sandna Rd, Savannakhet. T: (041) 212 600, (020) 544 0405.

It was also 50,000 kip and came with air con, big comfy bed, hot shower and cable tv. I can recommend it, it isn't flashy but it is clean and comfy. Be wary though, the upstairs double (same price) is not as nice as the downstairs double.

Make sure you head down to the river for a sunset beer at the floating restaurant.

I can also recommend the garlic and chilli fried crickets. Great for snacking with a beer.

Date visited : November 2012

We did stay at "Dao Savan Resort & Spa" at the riverside of Savanakhet. It is probably the most upscale place to stay in Savan (after the casino).
Rooms are good and comfortable but actually not worth their price of 2000thb (incl. and shitty breakfast).
But you have a good parking for your motorbike and an swimming pool.

Earlier I did stay at "Sala Savan" in an old French colonial house in the historic area of Savan. Room & bathroom are huge but old and not really clean. The rooms have airco.

Rooms are a reasonable size & everything worked ok.

110,000 kip = 450 baht.

Phetsarath Rd, Savannakhet, Savannakhet, Laos: Map location

Excellent location, close to the river and hotel has massage, bar & bistro, nightclub etc, plus pubs & restaurants and the river is 5 mins walk away.

Booked via Agoda in December 2018, rate was 750 THB per night for the Standard "A" Building
  • Double room had a bath with really hot water...
  • Downstairs cafe / bistro has excellent food at great prices.
  • Breakfast included in the room rate - but the best part of that was the baguette! In future, I'd go the downstairs bistro, or walk to Chez Bourne for a proper breakfast....

Oh man I remember this place . I once or twice over enjoyed the coffee shop pub night club there in its hey day . Luckily we only had to stagger upstairs.

I didn't get to use the lakeside restaurants, but the music & customers I saw were enough to make me want to return.

Sorry I don't know the hotel price as it was complimentary for me.
