Doh! I take back my recommendation for Motoz!!

I ordered two rear tires and today received just one front tire. When I called the shop to find out what happened the guy who was previously so friendly was a complete wanker, wouldn't admit his mistake, and hung up on me.

I posted this on the forum where he advertises, wonder if he'll respond...

In happier news I called up Mr Pairoj at Ek Paiboon and he had the tire I needed so off I went to Chinatown (mad traffic as always) and I ended up riding home with the IRC plus a Michelin Cross AC10 around my waist plus some heavy duty inner tubes. I've got a nice collection of tires for the KLX now :)

Mounted the Michelin Cross for this weekend's Kawasaki Enduro event at Bonanza Circuit. It's had great reviews so I'm looking forward to trying it out!

TonyBKK, Everyone else appears to be too tactful to point out your mistakes, but please take the following in good faith. In Thailand, the western notion of admitting to a mistake is not current. Without going into vast detail, in crude terms preserving face is of utmost importance.

In English, we often describe something as "bad". In Thai, someone would describe something similar as "a little good". This is one of many social cues. If you want a Thai to co-operate, whatever you do, help them to help you by not referring to any mistake. Instead, try praising the speed of their service, and laugh and say that the wrong tyre arrived. This way, you will get co-operation.

What prompts me to write is your post to a forum where the supplier advertises. Nothing I can imagine could be a worse outcome in Thai culture. My advice is, remove the post. Otherwise you are causing the supplier much worse embarrassment and social shame that you can imagine, and you will not achieve the result you seek. Instead, you will piss of another Thai, and the other Thais who read the post who will side with their brother, and create more Thais who will resent dealing with foreigners.

With the forum post deleted, and some tactful words, you should get the tyres you want. But, if your supplier follows Chinese business practise, it is probably too late for a refund. :)

Mate, I've been living in Asia long enough to know that it's often counter productive to be confrontational when someone messes up.

I called the guy and just said in my broken Thai something the the effect of "hey, I thought I ordered and paid for two VE33's but I've received one VE35" and the guy just kind of went off. I couldn't understand what he was saying so had my gf call him and she got abused over the phone. Seemed kind of weird for such a cheap item.

After my unsuccessful attempts to resolve the problem over the phone I posted on the forum, thinking perhaps there was some misunderstanding that might be clarified by putting it in writing and with pictures.

If you take a moment to look at the thread you'll see that all's well- he's admitted to the mistake and we'll work it out:

"Oh....I"m sorry,Send back to me. I was wrong."

Not all Thai's hide behind the antiquated concept of "face". Some actually understand that honesty and integrity will win them loyal repeat customers.

So, there was a little mix-up with my order, it's being fixed. All is well as far as I'm concerned. :happy1:

Hi Tony
I totally agree with you.
I have lived in Asia for quiet awhile and have found that if you say nothing and don't rant or rave when something is not right nothing will be done.
I have got up and yelled in a bank with after continuous wrong doings and its not until this was done something happened and then could not help enough.( RESULT)
I have also said this to my Thai wife who has also sometimes had to do this with different things and yes something is done then.
I to would post things to warn of bad service and wrong doings also if I get good service and a good result I will also post to tell all us x pats a good place so it runs both ways.
If service or something is bad in my own country I will do the same its nothing to do with Thailand you just want what is right and what you pay for what ever place you are in and yes if speaking or yelling is the only way for a result so be it or posting comments so be it ( ALL YOU EVER WANT IS WHAT YOU ORDERED AND PAID FOR)

Let me know what model, size and quantity of tires you would like and I will get back to you with a price.

Do you have any prices for the more general bikes available in Thailand like the KLX / CRF?
How much to EMS?

Cheers

No idea on EMS cost. I would have to physically take a tire to the post office and ask them for a price to like Bangkok and Chiang Mai. I had the tires trucked to me here in Ubon for less than 200 Baht if I can remember correct.

I am sure I could find the OEM sizes on the KLX and CRF but it would be easier to ask here if anyone knows.

Comming back next week and looking for new tires. Does anyone know where I can order Michelin Pilot road 3? Preference is given to Bangkok or Pattaya.

I read several pages of this thread but didn't read all pages, so sorry if this question has been asked before. :)

Looks like the D-Tracker and the CRF250M are wearing the same tires, IRC 110/70/17 front and 130/70/17 rear.

Since the Tracker is out longer, are there any riders who have replaced their tires with a different brand?

The big brands don't offer much in these sizes, the drawback is that these bikes have spoke wheels and need tubes.

I want to stay with the stock sizes but am open to others' experiences with other sizes.

I am in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and need to cross into Thailand to get new tires for my 2010 BMW R1200GS ADV, since nothing is available here right now. Can somebody recommend a shop in Korat, or anywhere near the border? Thanks.

After 4,600 kms I've decided I don't really like the Metzler Tourance tyres - not enough feel.
So I've gone back to Avon Distanzia

Cost 10.600 baht.

If anyone wants to give the Metzler's ago, they are for sale at Cockpit @ 1500 baht a tyre = 3,000 baht for the set; & there should be another 10,000 kms in the tyres.
