David-

If you remember, when I looked at your Metzeler tires I said they didn't look like a Tourance to me. I have used the Tourance on my TDM many times and was quite happy with them. I prefer Michelin Anakee as they are less expensive, but were sometimes hard to source. Cockpit does a good job of ordering either brand now.

The Metzelers on your bike were the "Tourance NEXT" which are a new tire and a completely different tread pattern from the standard Tourance. The standard Tourance is almost identical to your new Distenza's.

Yes indeed tourance next. I don't like them.

Pretty certain this shop is already in here some where..
Probably time to mention it again and bring it to the top.

It's a 90/10 (or 75/25 depending on who you talk to) dual purpose tire that has excellent grip and decent life. They are a bit more expensive but IMO one should never skimp on tires and brakes :)

I'm sure someone stocks Pirelli up in Chiang Mai? But if you can't find any ShowPow will ship them to you. (http://www.competizioni-moto.com/) or give Charlie a call: 089-003-8886
I got these for my crf but the rear developed razor marks all over the rear, and they did not back the tire. They wear great but just cant back a tire that develops something like this and they not warranty them--Just my personal experience!

Like to see some photos of the "razor marked" tyres if you've got some.
Sounds interesting.

Just been to the Honda dealership at soi On Nut to have the 1K km oil change on my CRF 250L (two bottles of oil and a filter change = 319฿).

While waiting I asked about the cost of new tyres as the two trips I've made in the past couple of weeks to Mae Hong Son and Sangkhaburi (1,800+ kms) have already shown wear on the stock tyres.

Price for the IRC OEM tyres was 1,974฿ (front) and 2,707฿ (rear). Total cost = 4,681฿ but I am entitled to 30% off as I bought by bike there, which brings the total down to 3,277฿.

As I don't intend to ride much off road I have been looking at easily available tyres for my bike that are more road friendly. In particular I'm interested in the Pirelli Scorpion MT 90/AT as the sizes fit my bike so I popped into the Pirelli shop in the same soi (mentioned previously) on the way home.

Price for the Pirelli Scorpion MT 90/AT tyres was 2,250฿ (front 90/90 - 21") and 3,000฿ (rear 120/80 - 18"). Total cost = 5,250฿. Had a look at the tyre too. Tread is very different from the IRC, much more road orientated and less 'knobbly'. The assistant said they are in stock and don't need to be ordered.

I have a 9 day trip to Laos planned for next month after I return from Europe. Probably make the change after that.

"As I don't intend to ride much off road..." - I didn't intend to, either, so I got the M with 17" rims, better front brake and stiffer suspension.
The stock IRC weren't bad but I got Michelin Street Radials for 6,000 baht which were quite an improvement.
I wanted to get Pirelli Diablo Rosso II but - not available when I wanted them. They would have been a bit over 8,000 baht the set.
I had MT60s on my XR650L and it felt like a different bike! Lots of fun drifting out of turns in second gear.
5,250 baht is a good deal, I bet you will have a lot of fun with them!
Maybe lock the deal in, who knows if they'll be available next month...

I got one front size 21x90-90 and two rear size 17x150-70, the prices were 3,000 for the front and 5,400 each for the rear. Delivery from Bangkok to Korat was 200 baht. Must say I was pleased with the service, after the first phone call all communication was by email, he updated on the shipment arrival at the port and when he could send them etc.
Now I need to get them fitted and give them a try.
Bump for jstar32 & CraigBKK, may still be applicable.

Thanks David. I've had another nod this way since posting (089 111 5962 Khun Pairoj).

As this is a general tyre thread I'll write about my experience yesterday at Pirelli, On Nut, Bangkok. Was quoted 5,450฿ for a pair MT21 Rallycross's for my CRF. These tyres are in stock (they fetch them from a storage site on the same soi.) Only issue was that they didn't have the 120/80 rear in stock, just the 130/80, which would make this tall bike even higher!

I only needed a rear change so ended up going with another stock IRC from my Honda dealer on the same soi (I've had no issues with this tyre and am making my first change after 10,000 Kms.) Price 1,895฿ with discount.

David, what don't you like about the Tourance Next? Pirelli in Bangkok currently doesn't have any Scorpion trail rear tires for the Versys and they offered the Tourance Next as an alternative.

Dwayne.

No feeling - feed back from the road.
I love the Avon Distanzias, but no stock at the moment & only 6,000 kms use.

No Avon Distanzia or Pirelli Scorpions available. Out of stock in Bkk, the same old never ending problem. Ho Hum.
For the record 10,600 kms out of the last set of Pirelli Scorpions - gone in 9 weeks. Oh dear...

Scorpion trail are good tyres but are equal to a sports tyre so anything over 10 thousand on a 160 rear tyre is a bonus.
The upside if you have a 180 rear tyre the scorpion trail will last longer as the carcass on a 180 is much stronger than a 160.
I rang technical support at pirrelli to complain about soft carcasses on 160 and they told me they where a much softer carcass than there 180 which on bigger bikes seems to last much longer is much stronger.
A good tyre wet or dry the scorpion trail but does not last long on a 160 rear unfortunately.

I just returned from our highly recommended Cockpit Tyre on Hang Dong Rd. (Chiang Mai). The girlfriend's CB500X was in need of tires and today the rear was flat so it was a rush trip. I decided I would try whatever, within reason, they had in stock. Low and behold, they had a just arrived set of Scorpion Trails in stock.

I was replacing the original tires (160/60 x17 rear) that came on the bike after 24,000 KM on the clock!
Of course her tires were worn mostly down the middle with plenty of 'chicken strips' left. This just shows that what tire wear is good for one person may have little relevance for someone else. You have to choose based on your usage.

At Cockpit I was in and out in an hour, free balance, free valves stems, and relieved of 11,900 baht. When I brought the bike home the girlfriend showed her appreciation with her first statement: "eew! Yellow!" (The previous Scorpion Trails on the bikes from Honda did not have the trademark Pirelli raised yellow lettering). Sometimes you just can't please 'em. :wtf:

Whoa, 24K km from a rear tire - that's impressive! Bet the front would have lasted a bit longer?

12K baht is hefty but if the tires last that long they are worth it.

I got 12K km on my Michelin Radials and they look as if they'd last another 12K! And that for 6K baht the pair.

Yes, the front would have lasted longer, but I was there, the tires were available, so why go back later. The mileage is impressive, but although she rides fast, most of her riding is up and down the 108 to Chom Thong to visit her father. Not many twisties. I am sure most of us would get less. 10,000 km is about the most I have ever gotten with my Michelin Siracs (a very good tire IMHO) on my DR650.

<span style="color: #c8c8c8; font-family: Tahoma, Geneva, sans-serif; line-height: 22px; background-color: #202020;">I have a Kawasaki 250 with 17 rear wheel and 19" front wheel.</span>

I have 50/50 tires which are great but want something more serious for off-road / mud / rainy season.

I can't find for my sizes easily. I'm probably going to have to mix and match 2 different models - but even that is hard to find.

Anyone any recommendations for an off-road 17 rear (width 120 or 130) and an off-road 19 front (width 70 or 80)

thnks Dav, but i dont feel like spending almost 10$ a minute for this call from Kazakhstan for God knows what result. as its just a website- and nobody heard of them. so far waiting when anyone i know there would check mail or skype- i dont feel like wasting all my balance on that calls i know be long. anyway those guys in phuket wouldnt go there to check wssup it is- theyll just give a call, they dont ride anywhere from their village not like our forrummates mototravelers who maybe would pass by that shop someday and check out wssup as it seem to be local tyre manufacturer- seems like good guys to know to me
