Tomorrow I start for Nan province where I will stay for next 2 week in same national park for make picture birds.
24 is my girl friend happy birthday and if the boss no make problem we will come.
We are with minivan because we will sleep inside my boss not allow me this holiday to follow her with motorcycle because no want to drive alone.

Nai Noi Accommodation

This really is a superb new resort at the Southern end of Na Noi. Very friendly people and right in the middle of so many great roads. 600B a night was the best VFM room on my last trip by far. Will definately be back.

Only 200 baht more than the Na Noi Resort = 1,000 baht a night, but as it is way above my budget did not check out the rooms.

A 3rd place I checked out was the cheap charlie motel Sakthong Resort, (not to be confused with the whisky resort at Sa Iab), but it was full.

Last but not least the dinner venue - Huen Fai Mae Jampee - to my surprise - has 10 rooms, 500-600-900 baht, with under cover parking.

They advised me this morning best to book via Agoda if you can, as communication could be an issue.

The idea of the GTR Dinners is to get guys to meet up & stay in smaller upcountry towns, that they may not normally stay in; with riders going to / from via whatever route they may choose & see some countryside & more traditional Thai lifestyle, rather than hanging out in the big towns at expat bars & restaurants, which you can do anytime. Hook up with new guys & plan rides to other destinations, as you please.

Departure time from CK was later than I wanted @ 9.46Am, against a master plan of 8.30am on the road.
Arrival time in Na Noi was 3.40PM.
Drink stops were in Chiang Kham @ the PTT Phusang, to wash down the dirt from the Thoeng - Chiang Kham road construction, plus have a natter with Oddvar & Johnny, heading to Ban from Chiang Khong; and second stop was the PTT Amazon Coffee shop to scorch my tongue on a bloody hot cappuccino.

This was an excellent mellow night chilling out in a super relaxing environment
It was great to meet Luca, a good new contributor to GTR & someone with long experience in Thailand.
Welcome to Gus as well, plus Paul back from the UK, Andy from Nan, & the Phayao team of the Hawk, Dave DKT & Mike; + Mae Taeng Brian.
Luca's missus also had a birthday.

HBD to you from the GTR gang. It will be OK to blow out the candles next year.

The next day everyone slit up again & went their own ways, such is the successful easy going formula of the GTR Up Country Dinner Rides.
I had a brekky at the new Na Noi Coffee shop.

Hooking up with Mike From Phayao for a lengthy chat talking bikes & trips to be.

Only open a month the Na Noi Coffee brekky choices are limited to coffee & a cheese cake.

I wasn't complaining, it is what it is in these small towns. Why we go there - all good fun checking out how the locals do & what they have in their little towns.

Mike & I split up.
Mike headed home to Phayao.
I decided to take a meander down R1026 for a look at a couple of places I thought might be interesting.

Na Muen was the first stop & Wat Bo Kaeo

A spectacular wat with outstanding murals & art work. Totally unexpected!

Absolutely sensational

A stunning wat for photographers. Check it out sometime. It makes 1026 well worth the ride.

It's a decade since I have been down here I think.

R1026 rocks as you all know, & wouldn't it be good to have day's photo session on it for some nice riding shots.

Wat Phra That Chiang Khong was the spot, adjoining the more famous Sao din

Walk out the back & down a gravelly dirt track & there's a sensational viewpoint over the countryside.

Nature is always a wonderful, powerful intriguing force what it can do.

That night I was in Nan, staying at the Grand Mansion & eating at the Sanian with the Hawk.
Breakfast the next morning was with Sean @ CrossRoads & I was in home in Chiang Khong by 5PM.

Found another old one for you guys. The end of the road R1256, on Doi Phukha on the Pua side. Not a great snap, & probably from 90-91-92? This spot is before the famous Chomphu Phukha tree, & as you see can the road had not reached that tree yet.
