Do we have a dinner location yet? I like to walk from my accomodation

All being well, the dinner venue should be here. The Khom Restaurant.

The recommended restaurant Khom has changed hands & it is now called Leng.

It is now run by a husband & wife team. No music.
I had a kow pat here & it was quite ok. They have beer.
Pick your own hotel & meet here 5pm.

The nearest hotel is the old Chiang Kham hotel.
The Buathong Resort is in the same street as the Leng
I will stay at the Tai Lue

If the Leng restaurant is not satisfactory then the # 1 spot in town would seem to be the White House out on the super

Plus there are these

For a music Pub at the end of the night

Lets suck it & see.

Playing catch up....a brief report on an amusing, fun easy-going night.

2 guys rocked up on time at the designated restaurant rendezvous to find it closed!

After a few frantic messages I was able to alert the remaining 3 guys coming on foot, that we actually needed transport to option # 2, which was supposedly the # 1 restaurant in town, if you can believe Google maps.

The White House it was then,
1701878958751.jpeg

We overwhelmed the place & staff with our numbers.
1701879072391.jpeg

There was five of us against two staff, who were obviously nervous about serving farang for the first time it seemed.

1701879250778.jpeg

The food was actually quite good & the service improved as the night went on.
1701879314689.jpeg

At 6pm the soft music came on & we asked for it to be turned so we could hear ourselves speak in the deserted restaurant.
At 7pm the guitarist & singer started with the volume cranked up yet again.
The drunk, local English language schoolteacher enjoyed himself telling us how good Chiang Kham was, but we soon got tired of his overbearing manner & son running around the restaurant rolling out all the toilet paper from an enormous industrial dunny roll. It did have some entertainment value for a while, but nothing that a good clip around the ears would rapidly sort out we all agreed, However T I T.
It was time to abandon the roaring White House.

The old GTR fellah was keen to seek out the Chiang Kham pub strip where the ex December Pub used to be.
The December maybe gone, but there are 3 other little bars in the same strip.
We ended up at the oddly named Larb Kom Nom To.

The name which roughly translates to "Bitter Larb Big Tits" if I understand correctly, & perhaps the pub glass stickers confirm this.

With indoor & outdoor tables, you can please yourself whether you want to chat sensibly or go inside & party with the music.

1701880222153.jpeg

We sat outside to chat but were soon accosted by Miss Mint recently returned home from Bkk & Pattaya.
1701881106488.jpeg

An outstanding little gal, used to the night life of Pattaya & Bkk, she certainly seemed out of place in her hometown of Chiang Kham and was keen to impress her fellow employees with her confidence & English language skills. We too were amused & taken aback.
1701881131125.jpeg

Tim had his Ducati parked up outside & it was a surprise to have one of the musicians pop out to have a close look at his bike, for he too had a Ducati Monster. A lengthy chat about bikes & Ducatis followed, to wrap an amusing, fun night.

Many thanks to Mike Rust for sponsoring the beer & food at the White House.
We hope you had a great birthday the next day when you got back home to Phayao.
Many thanks too, to Wayne66 & Kurt for coming as well. You guys certainly put in a few more kms coming.

The highlight of the ride for me was meeting up for a chat in a nice little cosy town for the experience of some local charm & culture.
The bonus at the end was the drunk English language teacher, who was able to tip me off for old location of the Chiang Kham refugee camp.
There's aways something new to find out there, hanging out in the little towns.

And the once fabulous December Pub?
Well its closed, the owner was killed in a car accident driving with his wife to Chiang Mai one night after closing. The wife survived, but not the husband. The wife reopened the pub, then it was leased, but there's a ghost of the owner lurking around the pub & nobody wants to go in there anymore.
